The End of the Day by Jeni Harney
Andrew Lewinski ARPS made his first visit to Stalybridge to judge the fourth, and last, competition of 2009. There was a good turn out to hear Andrew comment on the twenty-one prints and twenty-six digital images. First place in the print section went to Jeni Harney for her entry entitled "The End of the Day" and Sid Heald won the projected image section with "Beyond the Stars".
Well done to all the competitors and especially to the winners and a large 'thank you' to Andrew for giving his time and expert knowledge to judge.

Flash guns were overheating, blisters were appearing on shutter fingers and memory cards were rapidly filling with, hopefully, brilliant images as sixteen club members visited the National Cycling Centre. This evening we visited the Manchester Velodrome and spent several productive hours photographing large groups of cyclists racing at great speed around the magnificent track. The night was considered a sucess by all present and thanks goes to Tom and Andy for arranging the outing.

Congratulations to Jeni Harney and Andy Rhodes for winning the print and digital image sections respectively of the Chairman's Challenge. The competition was well supported and after rigorous selection the eventual winners were well-received by the audience.

Photoshoot at Flowery Field Church Hyde

Seventeen members took up the offer of a visit to Flowery Field Church Hyde, where the opportunities to take photographs outside and inside the church were greatfully accepted. The evening was a success with many great images being created, a collection of which will be handed over to the church members in due course.

Weather permitting, Sid will be leading a photographic walk around Ashton-under-Lyne town centre, where he believes there are many opportunities to take superb photographs.
Those intending to go should meet at the rear of Ashton Town Hall at 8.30pm.

Sid's Friday night portrait session 26th June

Sid will be holding one of his portait training sessions at Stanley Square Conservative Club on Friday 26th June starting at 8.00pm. It is anticipated that there will be two models.
All welcome; bring a camera and if possible a tripod.

Evening shoot at Portland Basin Ashton-under-Lyne

Members met at Portland Basin Ashton-under-Lyne this evening and spent a couple of hours shooting the local wild life and canal traffic. The weather was kind to us and the light was OK and therefore there should be many impressive images captured in cameras.

2nd Quarterly competition results

Steve Howard LRPS returned to judge the second competition of the year. Once again there was a good turn out to hear Steve comment on the images and award the first place in the print section to Ian Reed for his entry entitled "Spiral Tap" and to newcomer Jason Podmore for his "28 Days Later" projected image.
Well done to all the competitors and especially to the winners and a large 'thank you' to Steve for giving his time to judge.

Breaking News!
Sid has arranged a night shoot/training session to take place on Friday 1st May from the top of the IKEA A-u-L building. A tripod is a good idea, but not essential!
Those attending should park at the lower level car park and make their way to the IKEA reception area at the side of the building (facing Aldi ) where Sid will meet you between 20.45 and 21.15.
Ashton Parish Church
12.04.09

Members of the Club were invited to visit and photograph inside the Parish Church, The Church of St. Michael and All Angels, on Easter Sunday. More than a dozen members and friends took up the invitation and spent 2 hours taking photographs of the interior of the historic church. It is anticipated that an exhibition of the images will be held during the heritage week later in the year. Members expressed their thanks to the church for allowing the visit.

1st quarterly competition results

Steve Howard LRPS judged a wide selection of prints and projected images in the 1st quarterly competition of 2009. There was a good turn out to see the entries and hear Steve comment on all the images and award the first place to David Thornhill for his print "Almost Ready To Go" and to Sid Heald for his projected image "Stephanie".
Well done to all the competitors and especially to the winners and a large 'thank you' to Steve for giving his time to judge.

Club receives Lottery grant

SPC has been fortunate to be awarded a grant from the National Lottery through Awards for All.
The money will enable the purchase of upto date software and equipment so that the Club can go ahead with the ambitious project of bringing the delights of photography to the people of Stalybridge.
